Tasha Rae Jewelry Studio

Tasha Rae Jewelry Shop

Tasha Rae Jewelry, a Milwaukee-based jewelry studio and retail shop, tasked us with the design and renovation of their small storefront to accommodate a growing variety of programming: a gallery and retail environment for finely crafted jewelry, a jewelry making production studio, and a community classroom for weekly workshops.

Given the diversity of functions that were required to coexist in the small space, program was used to drive the conceptual clarity of the project and guide architectural decision making. The outcome is a series of distinct program zones that serve as backdrops for craftspeople, objects, and the community. At a glance, each zone is seemingly comprised of only a single architectural gesture. But with closer inspection, a variety of materials and details become evident.

Across the space the project maintains a cohesive design language: the rigorous alignment of horizontal and vertical planes, consistent panel reveals, and the balance of smooth vs. textured surfaces. The result is a space that is customized to the needs of specific programming yet flexible to the ways the studio will inevitably adapt to future needs.
